DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) consists of two biopolymer strands, coiled around each other to form a double helix. These two DNA strands are called polynucleotides since they are composed of several monomer proteins. Each nucleotide is made up of nitrogen-containing cytosine (C), guanine (G), adenine (A), or thymine (T), one deoxyribose sugar molecule, and a phosphate group. The nucleotides are joined to one another in a chain by covalent hydrogen bonds between the sugar of one nucleotide and the phosphate of the next, resulting in an alternating sugar-phosphate backbone, according to base-pairing rules. The total amount of DNA in all living organisms is estimated to weigh 50 billion tons (Wikipedia). That's a lot of DNA, especially as protein molecules are microscopic and thus invisible to the naked eye.

The DNA backbone is resistant to cleavage, unless there is a mutation, and both pieces of the double-stranded structure store the same biological information. When a cell divides, it RNA transcription must replicate the DNA in its genome so that the two daughter cells are afforded an exact copy of the genetic information stored in the parent cells. The double-stranded structure of DNA provides a simple mechanism for DNA replication. The two strands are separated and then each strand's complementary DNA sequence is recreated by an enzyme called DNA polymerase. A large part of DNA (almost 99% in humans) is non-coding, meaning that these sections do not serve as patterns for protein sequences, but rather perform little-known functions. Beyond major requirements within the molecular biology department, you may consider The Architecture and Agriculture Institute online anthropology degree as a complementary elective to your primary course of study.

Registered Nurse (RN) Program

To become a Registered Nurse(RN), you will be required to take courses in medical terminology, patient care and life sciences. Although associate degree programs provide students with adequate nursing training, a bachelor's degree provides greater clinical exposure and a stronger general education. A 4-year BSN program allows students to study specialized areas of nursing, including pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health nursing. An RN has to cope with more responsibility, and must oversee the work of LPNs and CNAs under their supervision. If you wish to continue advancement, a masters degree and several years of experience as a nurse, may qualify you for the Nurse Practitioner (NP) credential. Nursing job openings are projected to grow 16 percent over the coming decade, much faster than the average for all occupations. The average salary for nurses with an Associates degree was $43,700 in 2017, while nurses with a Bachelors degree earned $67,490 per year. Going on to nursing study via COCC food technology, for example, can help you find a rewarding position in the medical services field.

Certification requirements include board certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). The license period varies by individual state, but is usually valid for either two or three years, at which time you'll need to renew. Registered nurses (RNs) are not required to be certified in a particular specialty by state law. For example, it isn't necessary to be a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) to work on a hospital Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) floor, and most MedSurg nurses are not CMSRNs. To keep your license current, you must take continuing education courses, and renew your license every few years. There are a fixed number of credits that each state requires, and if you work in a hospital facility, these courses may be offered on-site. In order to complete the registered nurse (rn) program, Criswell College computer networking information may be used in order to fulfill computing breadth requirements.

Technical programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year university, and you can earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By remaining true to your career interests, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. If you're currently employed in a technical field, you may consider Delaware Tech physics department ranking as an option to advance your career. Massive open online courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps. For example, Khan Academy now offers free lecture videos served through YouTube. Then there's Thomas Nelson Community College geology department, with enrolled students from around the world.

Southwestern Adventist University Admissions Process

Most colleges accept either the SAT or ACT, and have formulas for converting raw test scores. The SAT test has a separate vocabulary section as well as the essay-writing requirement, while the ACT has a separate science and reasoning section. Other college admissions information sources, like MiraCosta College common application, promote the use of standardized tests in admissions decisions because there are substantial differences in course requirements, high school GPA, and grade curve difficulty among US schools. You can also explore Kaskaskia College online course offerings, in order to further target your academic interests.

The NCLEX, or National Council Licensure Examination, is a required nursing certificate exam for nurse licensing. To ensure uniform standards in the medical profession, each state board of nursing requires recent program graduates to pass either the NCLEX-PN for licensed vocational (LVN) or practical nurses(LPN), or the NCLEX-RN for registered nurses (RN). Care practices make up 30% of all NCLEX questions, covering safety concerns and patient care, particularly in the administration of medication. Another large section of the nursing exam is health promotion, which comprises 15% of the NCLEX.

Recent developments in college admissions include higher numbers of applicants, more foreign students, and increased use of common application forms. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation and test scores. According to data on Middlesex County College associate degree program pages, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. About half of colleges use placement tests and a waiting list, and many community colleges have transfer agreements in place with bachelor programs at four-year universities. You may compare Tulsa Community College test prep with other schools that you're considering.

Financial Aid Information

Government scholarship programs and Pell grants only account for a third of total financial aid awarded in the US. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. Please make use of student aid calculators online, to see if you qualify for need-based financial aid or a fee waiver. In fact, millions of students that would have qualified for some financial aid were late in submitting required application forms. Please note that the official FAFSA website is fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. The earliest that the FAFSA form can be filled out is January of a student's senior year.

Academic and athletic scholarships are highly competitive, and are usually awarded either by the admissions office directly, or through individual departmental awards. Loan programs may issue loans based on the credit scores of the applicant and any co-signers. This is in contrast to federal loan programs that focus exclusively on need-based criteria. Financial aid may be administered via Flathead Valley Community College scholarship deadline or through academic departments. Alternatively, student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution, but the interest rates are high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. FastWeb.com is one of the leading scholarship services online, with a large resource database. The Gates Millennium Scholars program is a minority scholarship targeted towards outstanding African-American students, as well as American-Indian and Latino students.
